Marie Scherzer has always been drawn to acting, expression, and transformation. While her career has flourished in choreography and creative direction, her passion for screen and stage acting has remained a driving force. At 18, she left her hometown of Jena, in the German state of Thuringia, to study acting in Berlin—laying the foundation for a cross-disciplinary career that fuses body and character work.
She is an actress with a strong background in movement, character embodiment, and physical storytelling. Her performances are noted for their emotional depth, authenticity, and raw physical presence—shaped by her experience across film, television, dance, theatre, and performance art.
In 2024, Marie starred in the leading role of “Lea” in the feature film Vexier (Director Matthias Wissmann), which premiered at the Hof International Film Festival. The project marked her return to the festival one year after 15 Jahre by Chris Kraus opened the festival, a film for which she served as choreographer.
She also played a supporting role in Zikaden (Director Nina Weisse), alongside lead actress Nina Hoss, and appeared as an actress and dancer in the DFFB film Climacteria (Director Berglind Thrastardottir).
On television, Marie was part of the ensemble cast of the ARD prime-time series “Eldorado KaDeWe” (Director Julia von Heinz, Constantin Film), where she contributed both as an actress and singer on the original soundtrack. Her additional screen credits include work for ZDF, ARD, ProSieben, ZDF Neo, and a wide range of independent film and TV productions.
After completing acting school in Berlin, she refined her craft through Meisner Technique workshops at ActorSpace Berlin. Since 2010, she has worked consistently in film, television, and music video productions—both in front of the camera and behind the scenes as a movement director and coach.
Marie’s unique ability to merge acting with physical expression has made her a sought-after collaborator for directors who value authentic, embodied performances. She has worked as a movement coach for award-winning actors such as Albrecht Schuch and Lia von Blarer, preparing them for their roles in film and series productions by using physical dramaturgy to enhance emotional depth and character presence.
She describes the act of switching between departments—acting, choreography, and directing—not as fragmentation, but as a mutually enriching & fruitful dialogue between her artistic roles.
She is also featured in numerous music videos, including Malonda’s 2024 release, as well as productions for Majan, Kraftklub, Bloodhound Gang, Fatoni, Guano Apes, and Magit Cacoon. These projects allow her to explore the interplay of image, rhythm, and emotion in short-form screen narratives.
In 2024, Marie led a masterclass at the Cyprus Film Days International Festival titled “The Artistry of Body Language & Storytelling through Physical Movement”, where she shared her approach to movement-driven character work in film.
As a voting member of the European Film Academy, she remains actively involved in the international film community and continues to advocate for the deeper integration of body language and physical storytelling in contemporary screen acting.
